Can I purchase a foreclosed home on Sheriff’s auction?

Written on April 13, 2010

My local paper recently listed a foreclosed home in my area going up for public auction through the Sheriff’s office on a certain day next month. Reading through the foreclosure listing, I have been able to gather where the home is located, what is owed on the home, and how long the owner has to reconcile with the mortgage company even after public auction. Do I, as a regular public citizen, stand a fighting chance to possibly purchase this home? If so, what steps do I need to go through?
